Systemic counselling and therapeutic work with families and couples

Systemic counselling and therapeutic work with families and couples is meant for families and couples who find themselves facing various difficulties that disrupt everyday life, for example chronic illness, loss, endless arguing or issues related to childrearing. It is also meant for couples who wish to improve the quality of their relationship and communicating skills.

The process of therapy varies in its intensity and length depending on the presenting problem and motivation for change. It may take just one or a couple of sessions to make a difference and promote change, or it may take a couple of months or years in case the presenting problems are more complex. We meet with couples and families once a month for a 60 minute long session.

When working with families and couples we collaborate with the Institute of Family and Systemic Psychotherapy.

Individual psychotherapy

Psychotherapy is treatment through conversation. There are different modalities of psychotherapy that differ from one another based on different underlying theoretical background. At Dirona we offer analytic, supportive and cognitive behavioural psychotherapy.

In the last couple of decades neuroscience has proven that individual analytically oriented psychotherapy is an effective treatment modality. It is a prolonged mode of psychotherapy that takes place from one to three times a week at least two years. This mode of psychotherapy is intended for those individuals who are highly motivated to initiate some changes in their personal lives and interpersonal relationships.

Supportive psychotherapy is a less demanding modality of psychotherapy, which offers help and support in finding more successful ways of problem solving. It takes place once every two weeks in sessions lasting 50 minutes.

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) has been proven to be an effective mode of treatment for anxiety and panic disorders as well as depression. CBT teaches clients to recognize and change their cognitive and behavioural patterns that underlie their symptoms and enables them to have a symptom-free life. Sessions are usually weekly and last 50 minutes. In 10 – 12 sessions most clients learn how to cope effectively without the unpleasant symptoms and are able to achieve a satisfying degree of psychological well-being.

Group psychotherapy

Group psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy conducted in groups. At Dirona we offer group analysis and group supportive psychotherapy.

Group Analysis is a form of analytical psychotherapy in the group and by the group. The small group, consisting of 6 – 8 members, with the help of the group analyst forms a therapeutic group matrix that helps individual members resolve, in the here and now group situation, the intrapsychological conflicts that have disabled them in their everyday lives and relationships.

Just as its individual version, group supportive psychotherapy is a less demanding modality of psychotherapy, that offers help and support in finding more successful ways of problem solving. It takes place once every two weeks in sessions lasting 90 minutes.

Systemic and analytic supervision

It is meant for trainees in the process of systemic and individual or group analytic therapy education and therapists that would desire consultations about their on-going psychotherapeutic work.
